"The Shining" by Stephen King

"Heeeeeeeerrrrrrreeeee's Johnny!"

Not gonna lie, I was disappointed that part wasn't in the book. It's almost took away from the story a little until I remembered not every movie sticks to the book like they should.

"The Shining" follows the story of the Torrence Family -- Jack, Wendy and five-year-old son Danny -- as Jack takes on the job of caretaker at a hotel hidden away in the mountains. The famous (infamous?) Overlook Hotel, in which everyone from citizens to mob bosses, from gangsters to celebrities, to even presidents, have rented rooms.

But that doesn't mean The Overlook doesn't have its own history. Not only have celebrites and citizens wined and dined together, murder and mayhem have also taunted and teased coyly with one another in the walls of the hotel. Paint and shine aren't the only things in the walls. You know the saying, "The walls have ears?" So do The Overlook's -- as well as eyes, teeth, claws and voices.

Jack and Wendy realize their son's "seizures" and "fits" aren't just that. There's more than meets the eye, as is with everything in The Overlook Hotel. Danny can read their thoughts if he concentrates hard enough. Danny knows what's going to happen before it happens. Danny knows what Daddy is thinking and how tired Mommy is. Danny knows. Danny also knows "The Woman in 217" and how she met her demise, but she is still there. Sure, she may have died, sure she may have been removed from the premises, sure she may no longer be present in the hotel.

But she is.

And she, like the hotel and the rest of the ghosts, wants young Danny now more than ever before.

Danny knows Daddy wants "The Bad Thing" (alcohol) and he knows Mommy wants to leave. But why they -- wait...what was that? Did that hedge animal move? The rabbit was on its stomach a minute ago... What's that feeling coming over him? Is it Tony, the friend who guides him when he passes out and tries to protect young Danny? Oh no... The vision again...of the blood and brain matter splattered on the wall...

If you want an edge-of-your-seat thriller that will not leave you as trusting as you once were, "The Shining" is one for you.

Keep an eye out for the review of "Doctor Sleep," the sequel to "The Shining," in which young Danny isn't so young anymore...
