"The Companion" by Katie Alender

"The truth shall set you free..."

Unless you are Margot, in which truth can be scarier than fiction.

Margot has lost her entire family in a car accident in which she was the sole survivor. Arriving at the orphanage was just another check off her Bingo card of unfortunate circumstances.

But soon, Margot is moved again to live with The Suttons and, upon arriving, thinks she may have found a family. However, her mind is quickly changed when she realizes she isn't "Little Orphan Annie 2.0."

Margot was brought in by the Sutton's to be their daughter's companion. Agatha, who was beautiful, vivacious, carefree one second and catatonic, quiet, distant the next. Agatha, who sits at a window, wears old-fashioned clothing, doesn't say a word. Agatha, who, at first, refused Margot's company and, once she realizes Margot is trustworthy, enlists her help to uncover the deadliest secret two girls coud ever share.

"The Companion" was a fast-burn novel that that I started and finished within 24 hours for the sole reason that I could not put it down. When I wasn't reading it, I was mulling over in my head what could possibly be the culprit and where the plot twist could even be going. I needed to know how and why Agatha became sick. Why was she mute and catatonic except around Laura...and what mysteries did the Copeland Mansion hold? And what was it that was write "GO" on Margot's wall every night?

If you're looking for a quick, suspenseful thriller, you've got to read "The Companion." It will leave you wondering what is real and what isn't...and who you can truly trust.
