"The Fifth Petal" by Brunonia Barry

Witches, cults and murder, oh my!

For as long as I can remember, I have LOVED learning about the Salem Witch Trials and how people thought witches actually existed -- and how some women believed they were actual witches. But "The Fifth Petal" by Brunonia Barry messes with your mind with so many twists and turns that you started wondering if writing is some form of magic and writers are the witches and wizards of modern day.

In 1989, three women who are descendants of women burned at the stake in the 1600's, are murdered, they're throats slit.

Fast-forward to 2014 and Callie is drawn back to the dark time in her own personal history that she refused to ever revisit again. And she is called back to Salem, where it all began. With the help of Rose, now dubbed Salem's madwoman, and Sheriff Rafferty, who may not be who he seems, Callie ventures once again down Salem's dark and bloodied history to find the person -- or thing -- responsible for her mother's death.

"The Fifth Petal" is a read you won't want to miss. You'll be left wondering if maybe, just maybe, there was some truth in those accused as witches after all.
